Virtual Visit at the Bronx School (2)February 16, 2023She Leads STEM returned to the Bronx School, a school for elementary level special education children, after an incredible first event! We worked with multiple classrooms, this time, about all things engineering! Students started the event by building positivity and self-confidence, which are essential for social-emotional learning. Then, they learned more about what it means to be an engineer, being creative and solving problems in the world around us. They got to be engineers for the day by building post-it note towers! Who can build the tallest building?

Robot Building & STEM Leadership with Girl Scouts

She Leads STEM partnered with Girl Scout Troop #2417 to help earn their STEM career badges! They learned to build wiggle bots with plastic cups, motors, and batteries, and watched as they drew circles across a page. In addition, they got a little introduction to block coding, and took all these skills with them back home. The Girl Scouts proved to be our next leaders, facing each challenge with excitement and determination.

She Leads STEM Summer Camp at FestaVille YEAR 2July 19-27, 2022She Leads STEM partnered with a summer camp, Festaville, for a second year of fun STEM projects for elementary school students to try! They learned how to block code a KUBO robot, engineer solar cars, build the strongest and tallest post-it note towers, and even flew their own parachutes… with the help of an all female volunteer team! Virtual Visit at The Bronx SchoolMay 27, 2022She Leads STEM made a visit to The Bronx School, a school for elementary level special education children. We worked with three classrooms to spread a message of empowerment and leadership and gave a lesson on floating! Students got an opportunity to take part in multiple activities to learn how to be great leaders in their own community and spread positivity. Then, they played a game of What Sinks and What Floats and learned how boats float. Afterwards, they had some Hands-On Learning and experimented by building their own boats out of tin foil!

Girls in STEAM with JuSTEMagine and SparkPositivityFebruary 27, 2022She Leads STEM partnered with JuSTEMagine and SparkPositivity, both organizations based in Nebraska to host a virtual event focused on Social Emotional Learning in STEM! Girls all around the country learned about the importance of inclusion, diversity, and our personal uniqueness in the STEM field, as well as participating in fun science and goal setting activities.

SLS Conference: Guest Speaker Series w/ Dr. Thora MaltaisDecember 10, 2021She Leads STEM hosted their first virtual event with 25 participants from all over the world! Guest speaker Dr. Thora Maltais, a Contamination Control Engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, shared her experiences working on the Mars Perseverance Rover. She also shared advice on pursuing a higher education and career in STEM, and answered questions during a live Q&A session.

STEM&SOUL Fundraiser Concert EventSeptember 12, 2021She Leads STEM hosted a fundraiser concert event at the Street Community Center North Parking Lot in New City, NY. With the help from local bands, Brain Drain and The Press, we were able to have amazing live music while hosting a short STEM workshop and a Bake Sale.
